Back in 50s showbiz circles, if you wanted a western shirt you went to Nathan Turk. He included the likes of Elvis Presley and Roger Rogers among his celebrity clientele and now, years later, his clothes have now become much sought after vintage pieces with Hollywood still happily flying this fashion flag flag. And one such example of Turk’s retro stylings turned up onscreen in 2007’s comedy smash, Superbad. It’s the blue western shirt as modelled on Jonah Hill’s character, Seth and though this exact one is no longer available, we’ve tracked down a lookalike that we think is sure to have all McLovins drooling with jealousy. »

Because starring in just one movie about a giant dog wasn't enough for Owen Wilson, the actor has just signed on the dotted line to provide the voice for Marmaduke in 20th Century Fox's live-action/CG movie. I don't berate Wilson for taking a paycheck, and he's got the right kind of personality to make the pooch's pipes interesting, it's Fox that I have disdain for. Really, Fox? It wasn't enough to inflict pain upon us with two Garfield movies? Your investors weren't satisfied with all that money made by the talking rats in the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie? Why do you guys have to be the talking animal movie studio?
Sigh.
The logline for Marmaduke has the Winslow family pack up and move from Kansas to California. Their dog Marmaduke is big, produces a lot of dog slobber and creates chaos at every opportunity. Family friendly comedic hijinks ensue! »

Actors who sign up for comic book movies often have to do a bit of research to familiarize themselves with the characters and concepts, especially when the movie they're starring in is based on a property that's not as widely known. For at least two actors starring in director Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of the Kick-Ass comic book by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr., research material could be found in their own homes.
Superbad star Christopher Mintz-Plasse and bit player Clark Duke team up once again in Kick-Ass, and they told MTV that they were both familiar with the comic book before signing on to do the movie. Mintz-Plasse, who played the unforgettable character McLovin in Superbad and dons tights as The Red Mist in Kick-Ass, said:
I got the script and said, "I've seen this name before," and went through my dad's comics, pulled out the first issue and read it. »

A little while ago, a teaser trailer for Dreamworks’ How to Train Your Dragon hit the internet but it was such poor quality that it really didn’t do the film justice. This would probably be the reason why Paramount asked us a day or so later to pull the video. A couple of weeks later, a proper teaser trailer came out with the exact same footage and to say it was tons better would be an understatement.
Today, thanks to Trailer Spy, Dreamworks has released the official trailer for How to Train Your Dragon in glorious HD and it is beautiful. The story is based on the 2003 children’s book by the same name written by Cressida Cowell. The movie is set in the land of Vikings and dragons and follows a Viking boy named Hiccup on the island of Berk. For Hiccup and his people, fighting dragons is an everyday occurrence. »

Ezra Buzzington (Halloween 2, The Hills Have Eyes), Charley Rossman (Superbad, "CSI"), Sally Berman (Angels and Demons), Daniel Kirschner, and Lashan Anderson have all signed up to join Strong in Victor Bornia's new flick.
Synopsis
When an alien abduction nightmare is revealed to have been much more than a dream, a skeptical grad student studying the “modern mythology” of UFOs and ETs finds himself confronting an impossible reality involving shape-shifting extraterrestrials, implanted objects, organ harvesting, and humans possessed by a malevolent alien presence unlike anything he has ever heard about... Ever since comedic actor Seth Rogen announced a new Green Hornet movie, superhero fans have feared all the years of work to get the genre taken seriously would be undone.
The later Batman movies of the 90s had made comic book adaptations a neon-lit no-go zone and it took Blade and then X-Men to revive them again. Now we have solid releases such as The Dark Knight and Iron Man delivering accessible, credible hits.
Rogen, previously known as a chubby comedian and not for any action hero roles, has co-written Green Hornet with Superbad partner Evan Goldberg. He will also play the lead role of newspaper publisher Britt Reid who has an alter-ego as the eponymous masked crimefighter, aided by a martial arts sidekick called Kato and a hi-tech car called Black Beauty.
French filmmaker Michel Gondry stepped in to direct the feature earlier this year, and that has gone »

Seth Rogen's girlfriend makes him wear "lame" costumes. The 'Superbad' star hates Halloween but his girlfriend, director-and-writer Lauren Miller, insists he enters into the spirit of the spooky festival and don fancy dress. The 27-year-old actor said: "I have a girlfriend now and I've entered the unfortunate world of paired costuming. It's not fun. I don't recommend it. "I always end up being the lamer half - it's like she's a dog and I'm a fire hydrant or something like that. It's never fun. So maybe I'm dodging a bullet this year." Despite his hatred of dressing up, Seth isn't afraid to have people make fun of him and recently admitted he is enjoying being mocked for his »

At a recent press junket for the TV movie Monsters Vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins From Outer Space, Seth Rogen spoke about The Green Hornet, which he is currently shooting and co-wrote with Evan Goldberg (Superbad). Rogen told MovieWeb that it is a relief to finally be working on the oft-troubled movie.
It is [a relief]. An enormous one; constantly. But we still have to make it awesome. So the true relief isn't there yet.
With Stephen Chow dropping out as director and co-star, the release being pushed back five months, and Nicolas Cage also quitting the project, The Green Hornet has had it's share of troubles before it even started production. At one point, Rogen joked that The Green Hornet was never going to be made but would be promoted "for the next 10 years." Now that Rogen and director Michel Gondry are finally working on the movie, Rogen doesn't feel that the pressure's off. »

The only big film festival in my own backyard is back and it runs from November 12th through the 22nd. While it caters more to heavy run fest material and arthouse film, they do have some of the more interesting films playing this year:
Ryan Ward's excellent Son of the Sunshine which is one of my favorite films of the year. (review)
The weird, lengthy comedy The Revenant (review)
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans
The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus

Year: 2009
Directors: Miguel Arteta
Writers: Gustin Nash & C.D. Payne (novel)

Review by: Hal MacDermot
Rating: 7.8 out of 10
Youth is Revolt is the screen adaptation of C.D. Payne’s cult book series charting the progress of the awkward, sex obsessed, super smart teen that is Nick Twisp. Michael Cera is made to inhabit this deadpan absurdist comedy world, a place where the teens are way more intelligent than the adults. It’s not an original take on life, but it’s probably how most teens think, so “whatever.” The strong supporting cast includes Steve Buscemi as Dad, and Zach Galifianakis as Jerry, one of his Mum’s pig boyfriends. Gustin Nash’s script feels slightly jerky, but suspending disbelief when you are laughing is usually easy.
Nick Twisp believes everyone is getting more sex than him, and he’s probably right. His separated parents certainly are. Buscemi is banging half-his-age-hottie Ari Graynor, »

There is, apparently, some bit of a problem on the acting horizons for two Canadian talents - Ellen Page and Michael Cera.
- - -
- - - A report from The Star, the online version of the largest Canadian daily newspaper, explains why:
Ellen Page and Michael Cera, the Juno duo who until recently were our brightest new cinematic lights from sea to shining sea, and also all points south of the 49th Parallel.
Halifax's Page parlayed her precociously preggers title teen in Jason Reitman's hit film into a Best Actress nomination at the Oscars, a rare Canuck achievement. Brampton's Cera came to Juno already a star, having already lit up screens here and stateside in the super-popular movie Superbad and the cult TV fave Arrested Development.
- - -
It gives me no pleasure to report this, or to baldly state the obvious reason why Cera and Page are currently floundering: typecasting. »
