Day Break – The Complete Series DVD – Win Your Here

14 October 2009 10:32 AM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

Of all the DVD releases of shows that didn't last through a first season run that have (bizarrely, I think) come along in the last year, no show actually deserves the treatment more than Day Break. Not that the somewhat odd, sci-fi effort starring Taye Diggs is the best show you've ever seen, but it's a really fun thriller full of twists and turns, and the seven episodes that never made it to air actually pull the thing together to a conclusion. If you missed it completely, Day Break finds Detective Brett Hopper in a really bad day, and unable to get out of it. Accused of shooting state attorney Alberto Garza, Hopper soon learns he's being framed, and his alibi isn't going to help him any. He runs, and when things don't work out... he wakes up (ala Groundhog Day) to start the day again, with the memories of »

FlashForward Gets Full Season Order

12 October 2009 3:54 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Fans of the series, FlashForward, can now watch comfortably without fear of cancellation as ABC has picked up the freshmen series for a full season order.

The series - which focuses on the mysterious event that causes everyone to simultaneously blackout for 137 seconds and “flash forward” to view a moment in the future on April 29th, 2010 - has been performing strong in its time slot with a 3.0 amongst adults 18-49, compared to last year with Ugly Betty garnering just 2.6.

Unlike their struggling neighbor, NBC, whose new shows are not performing as expected (they even canceled the returning Southland before any episodes aired), this marks the fourth new series ABC has picked up for a full season with Cougar Town, Modern Family and The Middle all receiving full season orders a few days ago.

I’m so happy that I can settle in and watch this show. I’ve been wary »

New TV on DVD releases this week

28 September 2009 4:06 PM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

This might not be the biggest DVD release day in history, but it's certainly one of the business. There's something for everyone this week, including a bunch of "Fan Favorites" DVDs for various sitcoms, including NewsRadio, All in the Family, and I Dream of Jeannie. That's a neat idea, though I wonder, if you're a big fan, wouldn't you already have the DVDs?

Oh, and remember Day Break, the ABC mystery series from a couple of years ago? You can get the Complete Series. I don't think I ever saw the end of that show. You can watch it on SlashControl, so maybe I'll start there before buying the set.

All in the Family - Fan Favorites Ax Men - Season 2 Barney Miller - Fan Favorites Bewitched - Fan Favorites Continue reading New TV on DVD releases this week

ABC’s ‘V’ Gets A Premiere Date

11 August 2009 5:50 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

ABC has announced the premiere date for their re-imagining of the 1980’s sci-fi series called V.

The airdate we can now all start looking forward to is Tuesday, November 3rd at 8:00 p.m., Et/Pt.

Below is the press release description of ABC’s outline of the show:

V is a re-imagining of the 1980s miniseries about the world’s first encounter with an alien race. Simultaneously appearing over every major city in the world, the Visitors (or V’s) promote a message of peace. Through their generous offer to share advanced technology, the V’s build a following that may actually hide a more malevolent agenda, one that twists a very deep component of human nature — devotion.

While the world quickly becomes fascinated with the V’s and their link to wonders just beyond the reach of human understanding, FBI Counter Terrorist Agent Erica Evans (Elizabeth Mitchell) discovers »

Ramon Rodriguez May Get Equal Screen Time With The Robots In The Next ‘Transformers’

30 June 2009 2:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Hollywood has a peculiar way of getting ahead of itself. It’s all about that hype train; you want to load in as many passengers as possible while it’s at top speed and then sort out the destinations later. Take last week’s “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” and its seemingly inevitable sequel. Director Michael Bay’s robot warzone weathered buzz-killing so-so reviews and finished out with a record-breaking $200+ million opening weekend.

So it’s no surprise to hear that Bay hopes to expand on breakout “Revenge of the Fallen” star (and last week’s Hump Day Hottie) Ramon Rodriguez’s role in the next “Transformers” movie. The newcomer certainly turned in a solid performance — as solid as a one-dimensional blockbuster sidekick can be — and he continues to align himself with powerful Hollywood players.

Speaking with the Los Angeles Times, Bay said that “we went looking for a sidekick in ['Revenge of the Fallen'], Shia’s sidekick, »

HitFix Interview: 'Harper's Island's' deceased Sheriff speaks

26 June 2009 6:29 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

In his 30-plus year acting career, Jim Beaver had done everything from "Dallas" to "Matlock" to "NYPD Blue" to features like "Hollywood Shuffle" and "Sister Act." But Beaver went from steadily working jobber to in-demand character actor when he was cast as Whitney Ellsworth in HBO's "Deadwood." That role, as perhaps the moral heart of a marvelously amoral show, opened the door for extended turns on programs including "Day Break," "John From Cincinnati" and, of course, "Supernatural." It also led the producers of CBS' "Harper's Island" to target him for the character of Sheriff Mills. Since I'm writing this story,... »

Former Angel and Alias Producer to Run ABC’s New V Show

5 June 2009 9:18 AM, PDT | SciFiCool.com | See recent SciFiCool.com news »

Variety reports that former Angel, Alias, and Day Break producer Jeffrey Bell has been tapped by Warner Bros. Television as the showrunner for their new series V, based on the ’80s mini-series and short-lived show from Kenneth Johnson. I’ve hinted at it before, but a show like V has come at the perfect time, when the country seems to be throwing a heck of a lot of blind faith in some stranger who has appeared out of nowhere to promise them pretty much everything, in return for nothing short of total obedience and blind faith. Nonbelievers, it would appear, need not apply in this new V universe. In the article, producer Bell seems to think along the same lines as me, though how much follow-up will happen will probably depend on how brave the show is willing to be. Just as the original “V” used the story of an »

The 2009 AfterElton Hot 100: Men of Color

10 May 2009 9:47 PM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

While African-American men only nabbed 4% of the slots on the Hot 100 list, they pretty much ruled the roost when it came to this category. Indeed, it was nearly a Top 10 sweep with only Wilson Cruz and Mario López sneaking in at the end. As for Asians, B.D. Wong landed at #14 and Daniel Dae Kim came in at #18 while Sendhil Ramamurthy pretty much carried the torch for Indian representation by placing #12. The next highest-ranking man of Indian descent was British native Dev Patel, who made quite an impact in Slumdog Millionaire (2008). Alas, the success of that movie only propelled Dev to #28.

After Cruz and López, the next highest ranking men of Hispanic descent were Gael García Bernal and Guillermo Díaz at #s 20 and 21, respectively. Pop singer Ricky Martin clocked in at #26 followed by soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo at #40.

With any luck, the election of Barack Obama will remind all of us »

Southland: A Decent Premiere; Keep It or Cancel It?

10 April 2009 8:15 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Last week, NBC and 16 million viewers said goodbye to the venerable medical drama, ER. This week, the network debuted a new show co-produced by ER's John Wells. So, how did Southland stack up?

Southland is police drama that's billed as a raw and authentic look at Los Angeles as seen through the eyes of the men and women of the Lapd. In the pilot, we meet John Cooper (Standoff's Michael Cudlitz), a seasoned and no-nonsense cop who's assigned to guide a young rookie named Ben Sherman (Ben McKenzie from The O.C.). Others in the cast include Regina King (Leap of Faith), Tom Everett Scott (Grace Under Fire), Michael McGrady (Day Break), Kevin Alejandro (Shark), Shawn Hatosy (Felicity), and Arija Bareikis (Crossing Jordan).

NBC certainly needs a hit and hasn't had much luck lately with the likes of Kings and The Chopping Block. It appears however that the peacock »
