Reminds of Old days, 25 May 2009
Author: silvan-desouza from India
This film reminds us of KHOOBSURAT, PADOSAN, CHUPKE CHUPKE which Hrishida did and weaved magic, This film was a comeback for him and was his last film which however came too late in the day yet it's fun
The film reminds us of his old films and have a 70's kinda feel throughout but still is a nice film to watch on TV
There are many nonsense scenes which look out of place in 90's(when the film released) but that is forgiven
The entire Rahmanoj track is well handled and so is the Amrish- Anil scenes The flashback portion too is well handled and the plan of Margaret and the best part is Amrish Puri is shown so smart that he recognises Anil in the photo
The climax though clichéd suits the theme
The problem with the film as i mentioned is the old day feel and also the constant fade offs and fade ins but that is forgiven Even some songs could be done away with and the film gets lengthy and certain portions are too slapstick
Direction was good though not at his best Music was nice, the video at the start is the best Camera-work gives a dated feel
Anil Kapoor excels in his role(s) which has shades of Amol in GOLMAAL He is hilarious whenever he comes on screen in a subtle manner Juhi Chawla too does a good job and their pairing is good Sajid Khan is awful in his debut, Amrish Puri steals the show and shows what a powerful talent he is, He is one of the best deadpan comic actors we have and has an infinite range Anupam Kher however gets sidelined Reema Lagoo is good in her part Anang Desai, Harish Patel are decent

Funny movie, 9 February 2001
Author: Rahul (patel_rahul) from Anaheim, California
After a long absence from Indian cinema Hrishikesh Mukherjee comes back with his trademark comedy. It's a good funny movie, although, not as good as his past movies like Golmaal, Rang Birangi. The story revolves around Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla. They are in love but Juhi's father(Amrish Puri) is very orthodox and expects his daughter to marry someone else. The final result is a comedy where Anil Kapoor tries every way to impress Amrish Puri. This movie brings a breath of fresh air in today's Bollywood where the directors are spending loads of money without any results. The crux of any good movie is a good story/dialogue, which lacks in most of today's movies. Hopefully the new kids on the block will learn somtehing from Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
