Toby Kebbell to Play John Wilkes Booth in The Conspirator

4 November 2009 3:57 PM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Our friends over at First Showing got an interesting little scoop this afternoon, picking up some casting news from Robert Redford's upcoming Lincoln assassination film The Conspirator. A friend of Fs' Alex Billington ran into RocknRolla star Toby Kebbell, who said that he was in town to work on The Conspirator and that he's playing John Wilkes Booth. For those who missed 6th grade history, Booth was the man that pulled the trigger on President Abraham Lincoln in Box 7 at Ford's Theatre on April 14, 1865. If this turns out to be true (all signs point to yes, as it's first hand), Kebbell completes a cast that includes James McAvoy, Robin Wright Penn, Frederick Aiken, Justin Long, Evan Rachel Wood, Alexis Bledel, Kevin Kline, and Tom Wilkinson. The film will follow the story of Mary Surratt (Wright Penn), the lone female charged as a co-conspirator in the assassination. "As the whole nation turns against her, she »

Sin City 2 To Start Production In 2010?

30 October 2009 12:36 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

For months now all we’ve really had on the Sin City 2 front is “it’s happening… it’s on its way… it’s coming… at some point!…” Well, maybe not that exactly but you get my point. Back in May this year, we reported that Sin City 2 was finally moving forward, with Rodriguez saying he’d talked to “key players” about the sequel. A couple of months later Alexis Bledel (the blue-eyed girl from the first Sin City) talked about how her character would fit into the sequel considering her character was [Spoiler] presumably murdered by Josh Hartnett’s “The Man” at the end of the first film. [End Spoiler] From what she revealed it leads us to believe it’s going to be – as fellow Screen Rant writer Kofi Outlaw called it – a prequel, midquel and sequel.

However, despite those forward-thinking terms, it all seems like just talk, with no real confirmation of anything… »

'Sin City 2' To Shoot Next Year, 'Hard Boiled' To Follow?

29 October 2009 8:44 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

The long-awaited "Sin City 2" will finally begin production in the second half of 2010, to be followed by a possible adaptation of Frank Miller’s "Hard Boiled."

According to a report on Mania, “Sin City 2” producer Stephen L'Heureux confirmed that the story will be based upon an original script by Miller, who will once again co-direct the sequel with Robert Rodriguez .

Additionally, L'Heureux revealed that Miller is writing the screenplay adaptation for “Hard Boiled”, which Miller is also attached to direct.

Originally published by Dark Horse in 1990, “Hard Boiled” paired Miller and artist Geof Darrow on an oversized three issue miniseries. The ultra violent story follows an insurance investigator named Carl Seltz who discovers that he is a cyborg who may be the only hope of an enslaved robot population.

However, with “Sin City 2” on deck and “Hard Boiled” still at an early stage of development, it may not happen immediately. »

Gilmore Girls Creator Inks Deal with HBO

21 October 2009 11:44 PM, PDT | TVStar | See recent TVStar news »

Before Gilmore Girls, rapid fire banter did not exist. The mother-daughter team of Rory and Lorelai created a new trend and while on air did something remarkable to households worldwide. Gilmore Girls made mothers cool, and it allowed mother-daughter teams to bond every week over the antics of the silly and adorable Rory and Lorelai. Oh, how we miss the days of the Gilmore Girls, but wait, have you heard the buzz about a new show by Amy Sherman-Palladino? Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) and Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) gave us seven great years of fast talking mother-daughter hijinks. Never had a show highlighted the beautiful and complex relationship between mother and daughter in the way Gilmore Girls did. At times the relationship was messy, leading the duo to fight, at times the unbreakable bond was extremely moving, but more often than anything else, we witnessed four generations of the Gilmores »

Could Robert Redford Have Picked a Better Cast?

16 October 2009 7:48 AM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Steven Spielberg's Abraham Lincoln pic will definitely have a run for its money if it ever gets made. Robert Redford is cooking up one hell of a roster for his drama The Conspirator, which focuses on Mary Surratt's involvement with the assassination. Now Variety reports that the filmmaker has lined up the rest of his cast. First, as we already learned: Robin Wright Penn will play Mary Surratt, "the only female charged in the conspiracy to kill" Lincoln. She was said to have given John Wilkes Booth and David Herold weapons. James McAvoy, meanwhile, will play Frederick Aiken, the war hero and man tapped to defend her in court. And now:

Tom Wilkinson -- Reverdy Johnson, a Surratt sympathizer and mentor to Allen, who was the former attorney general and U.S. senator.

Evan Rachel Wood -- Anna Surratt, daughter of Mary. She later had to fight for her mother's remains. »

Roadside Has the Hots for Julio DePietro's 'The Good Guy'

16 October 2009 | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

- If they can make it here, they can make it anywhere. The modest in size Roadside Attractions can certainly relate to the big ambitions and dreams of the narrative in their second title pick-up for their eventual 2010 slate, setting the Tribeca played Julio DePietro romantic dramedy for a March release, right after the January release of the Berlin Film Festival pick-up Happy Tears. Perhaps a good companion piece to the eventual release of Stone's Wall Street 2The Good Guy sees actor Scott Porter play Tommy, a rising Wall Street star in a budding romance with a new girlfriend, Beth (Alexis Bledel). He begins mentoring a seemingly hapless new salesman (Bryan Greenberg) who befriends Beth, starting a chain of events that might ultimately lead to his downfall.     ... »

More Cast For The Conspirator

Filming is already underway on Robert Redford's The Conspirator, and the impressive cast keeps getting bigger. We knew James McAvoy was playing Frederick Aiken, the lawyer assigned to defend Robin Wright Penn's Mary Surratt in the trial following the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, while Justin Long recently joined as McAvoy's best friend. But it's now been revealed that the cast also includes Evan Rachel Wood, Tom Wilkinson, Kevin Kline, and Alexis Bledel.Wood will play Surratt's daughter Anna. Wilkinson is Aiken's mentor, senator Reverdy Johnson, who sympathises with Surratt, the only woman among the conspirators and the first woman - spoiler! - ever to be executed by the United States Federal Government, after a somewhat irregular trial.Bledel plays Aiken's wife, and Kline is Edwin Stanton, Lincoln's war secretary.  »

The Conspirator Keeps Building An Impressive Cast

15 October 2009 5:33 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Having played the super brainy Rory Gilmore on TV for so many years, Alexis Bledel is still adored by many women my age. But today I have no choice but to hate her. She's in the enviable position of playing James McAvoy's wife in The Conspirator, the Robert Redford-directed drama about Mary Surratt (Robin Wright Penn), the only woman to be tried for the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Bledel is among a whole host of people who have joined the cast today, according to Variety, alongside Tom Wilkinson, Evan Rachel Wood and Kevin Kline. Wilkinson will play a mentor to McAvoy's character, a war hero lawyer defending Surratt, with Wood playing Surratt's daughter and Kline as the War Secretary Edwin Stanton. Given that Surratt was a Confederate sympathizer, both Penn and Wood will probably be expected to turn in Southern accents. Penn wasn't too bad as Jenny in »

Melrose Place's Michael Rady On Heather Locklear and His Melrose Murder Fantasy

13 October 2009 2:00 PM, PDT | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

While everyone else on Melrose Place plots and preens, Michael Rady's role is simply to be the nice guy. As fumbling filmmaker Jonah Miller, Rady lends Melrose a qualified and compelling optimism, a necessary counterpoint to Katie Cassidy's deep brood and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz's perpetual po-face. In fact, Rady's screen presence is so calming that when he breaks Alexis Bledel's Greek-American heart in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, we blithely approve.

Shortly after the CW ordered additional Melrose scripts, Movieline talked with the 28-year-old Rady about being broke in New York, his first table-reads with Heather Locklear, and Jonah's foreseeable (and perhaps homicidal) future. »

Lauren Graham pinch hits in "Parenthood"

12 October 2009 8:00 AM, PDT | AfterEllen.com | See recent AfterEllen.com news »

Welcome back to my TV, finally, Lorelai! Ok, fine, so she won’t be playing Lorelai Gilmore. But Lauren Graham is coming back to TV as the replacement for Maura Tierney in the upcoming NBC series Parenthood.

Lauren finalized a deal on Friday to take over for Maura, who left the production to undergo treatment for breast cancer. Helen Hunt has been in talks to take over the part earlier, but they fell through. So Lauren stepped into the role of Sarah, a single mom raising two teens who moves back with her parents in Berkeley.

This is Lauren’s first return to TV since Gilmore Girls ended in 2007 after seven seasons. Her previous comeback attempt in a sitcom playing a self-help guru, was never picked up. She joins a large ensemble cast in the hour-long family dramedy that includes Six Feet Under alum Peter Krause, Coach star Craig T. Nelson, »
