Terry Gilliam’s latest movie is a tribute to his wonderfully creative and absurd imagination, and it’s also the last film of the late, great Heath Ledger, who died during production. With Gilliam on the verge of quitting, Heath’s friends in the shape of Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell stepped into the breach and saved the day. Imaginarium is ambitious with flashes of genius, but the individual parts are greater than the whole. When Gilliam is in full-on Time Bandit absurd mode I loved it, but in the bigger picture, the exploration of imagination, lust and the path to salvation, I wasn’t convinced. This is a movie with the Gilliam visual stamp, and you should try and see it on the big screen.

Heath Ledger Receives Tribute for Final Performance

While his performance in The Dark Knight earned Heath Ledger a posthumous Oscar, it won’t have the distinction of being the last movie to star the late actor.

On December 25th, audiences will be able to see Ledger on screen one last time in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Ledger’s death came during the filming of the movie, and caused production on the film to be temporarily put on hold.

At the recent premiere of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Ledger was lauded by the film’s director, Terry Gilliam, who addressed going forward with the movie without Ledger’s presence.

Gilliam’s interview speaks very openly about the impact of Ledger on the cast and crew, and speaks highly of the actor saying, “We weren’t going to let Heath’s last work just disappear.”

And thank goodness for that.

Commercial spoofs take shots at DirecTV's Chris Farley spot

Controversy raged last weekend as fans and media types reacted to a new DirecTV ad using the late Chris Farley in scenes from Tommy Boy. Now, some aggressive YouTubers are taking their shot at offending some people (with DirecTV execs at the top of the list).

The original ad featured a live action David Spade discussing DirecTV against Farley's antics from Tommy Boy. While Spade insisted Farley wouldn't mind, a lot of his fans took offense to using a dead man to hawk a product.

But the video below, from a YouTube page, The Landline, lights up the satellite TV provider with an edgy send-up of the "dead talk cash" stunt with faked DirecTV ads featuring a pseudo Heath Ledger, John F. Kennedy, and someone else you'll recognize.

There's a conspiracy theory floating around that this is actually clever viral marketing from DirecTV itself -- since no publicity is bad publicity. »

Okay, so we haven't even received official word that there will be a third movie in Christopher Nolan's "Batman" franchise, but that doesn't mean we can't speculate about the characters we'd like to see in the film if it ever gets made.

When it comes to the Batman movies, there's a long—and some might say sordid—history of jam-packing greater numbers of villains into each installment. However, with the passing of Heath Ledger last year, the most prominent prospect for the next installment's villain suddenly (and tragically) became an impossibility. The question now becomes: will Nolan go for a returning character or someone entirely new if/when he tackles the Dark Knight next?

Shortly before his death in January 2008. Ledger directed the video for "Cause An Effect," a song from Australian rapper N'fa (a k a No Fixed Abode). The actor and N'fa were childhood friends; the video was shot in Ledger's Australian garage.

Wait, Now Heath Ledger Has a DirecTV Commercial?

If you've been watching playoff baseball these past few weeks, you've probably come across the Tommy Boy DirecTV commercial about, say, 176,000 times. About a week after it began airing, the satellite television company came under fire for a second time for airing parody commercials featuring actors or actresses who died tragically at a young age. The first was a commercial featuring Poltergeist actress Heather O'Rourke, and now folks are really pissed DirecTV is using Chris Farley in a commercial that stars David Spade (who reprises his character from Tommy Boy in a parody of the "Fat Guy in a Little Coat" scene).

If you want my personal opinion, I think DirecTV does this sort of stuff on purpose -- claiming to be "celebrating" the life of a dead celebrity, though what they're really hoping for is that people like us (and several other sites) will give them a bunch of »

Last week the online world threw a big fuss over DirecTV's newest television advertisement, which features David Spade pimping the satellite service in an altered scene from Tommy Boy, which of course includes his dead friend, comedian Chris Farley. And you may remember, this isn't the first time DirecTV has been accused of profiting off of the dead, as they came under fire last year for the same thing, with a similar ad altering Poltergeist, featuring Heather O'Rourke, an actress who died tragically in 1988 at age 12. 'This Is It' tops Australian box office

The music documentary, comprised of footage of the late King of Pop's rehearsals for his curtain call tour, dominates the chart with a $$3.7 million haul. For Michael Jackson, This Was It… Sort of

Well, so much for all the lousy hype about how great that Michael Jackson movie would do. Michael Jackson's This Is It made only $21 million on the weekend, and with its $3.7 million Thursday haul and $7.4 million Wednesday haul, its grand total is $32.5 million. Big deal! The studio made it sound as if this movie was going to be this monster hit in the USA, with sellouts everywhere etc. etc. Well, Paranormal Activity has been the one with the sellouts since it opened, and it made $16.5 million this weekend, almost taking down Michael Jackson. It came very close on both Friday and Saturday, in fact, to topping Jackson. On Friday it got $6 million to Jackson's $7.8 million, and on Saturday the margin was $7.1 million for Jackson to $6.5 million for Paranormal Activity. Overall, the haul for Paranormal Activity since it opened is $84 million. The bottom line is that Michael Jackson underperformed compared to what everyone expected, while »
